2026 Teacher Appreciation Week Freebies and Deals

May 4-8, 2026  is Teacher Appreciation Week, and to celebrate, there are some freebies and deals around.

I have only included those in my local area, but if you are outside the Southern CA area, a quick Google search can find you some local freebies.

Chipotle: This one is pretty popular. Chipotle is saying “thank you” by giving away 100,000 FREE Burrito Cards. Enter to win by 5/12.

Shake Shack: Teachers receive a free ShackBurger or Veggie Burger with a $10 purchase. Must show school ID.

Some Raising Cane’s locations are offering free drinks (excluding lemonade) in May. My local Raising Cane’s is not participating.  Here is the list of participating locations.

I’ve read online that some Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s locations may do freebies or deals next week; however, I couldn’t confirm anything online.

If you are a Sonic Drive-In fan, download their app and sign up for an account. When you go to account settings and select “I’m a Teacher” to join the Teachers’ Circle.  You will be asked to verify that you are an educator. Update your profile to verify your status as faculty or staff at a K-12 school or degree-granting university. Once you verify, there will be freebies and deals added to your account throughout the year.

These next freebies are not tied to Teacher Appreciation week- these are available year-round and are pretty amazing.

May and June Upcoming JCP Kid’s Craft Events!

JCPenney hosts a fun craft event in-store for kids on the second Saturday of each month.  They are easy for kids and a fun, free activity. My kids loved these when they were little.

While you are there, make sure to join their Rewards Program. There are a lot of great benefits, and it’s free to join. I do a lot of our shopping at JCP. They are very size-inclusive, have great prices/sales, and support diversity in the communities in which they are located.

In-store events are only where local mandates allow.  All kids must be accompanied by an adult. More details, including participating JCP locations, can be found here.

On May 9th, from 11 am to noon, kids can make and take their very own Mother’s Day Flower Bouquet Craft.

All materials are provided but are only available while supplies last.

Plus, parents get a free 10% off coupon (and it can be combined with other JCP coupons!).

And moving right along into June…

On June 13th, from 11am to noon, kids can make and take a Super Hero Plaque!

All materials are provided but are only available while supplies last.

Plus, parents get a free 10% off coupon (and it can be combined with other JCP coupons!)

Got A Teacher in Your Life? 7 Ways to Lend Support

May is upon us, which means it’s the downward slide into the end of the school year. It’s also that time of year when your teacher friends are a little more stressed than usual. For some states, standardized testing starts after spring break. For most classrooms, the supplies that were purchased in August have run out completely.

Here are seven ways that you can lend your support to an educator in your life without buying $30 wrapping paper at their next fundraiser.

If you’ve got the time, cash, or inclination, here are a few ways you can help the teacher in your life:

  1. Check with them to see if they need supplies.  Between Dollar Tree, Walmart, and Amazon, there are a lot of places you can find inexpensive number 2 pencils, markers, and lined paper.
  2. Headphones/in-ear headphones. Mid-year is about the time when they stop working. And most schools can’t afford to replace them. A lot of classrooms use programs that read to kids, especially in the lower grades and special education classrooms. Standardized testing frequently has sections that are read to students or require them to speak. A handful of the plug-in in-ear headphones from Dollar Tree or Five Below can help. School iPads use USB-C headphones.
  3. Do they have a Donors Choose Page? Are they trying to raise funds for a special project? Throw $10-$20 their way, and share their donor’s choice link on your socials.
  4. Ask if they have an Amazon wish list. Buy something, share it on your socials.
  5. If you eat out frequently, check to see if your teacher friends’ PTSA/PTA utilizes restaurant fundraisers. The school my children go to has a restaurant fundraiser once a month with local restaurants in our community. 20% of the bill goes towards funds for the school. We don’t eat out very often, but it’s a good way to support my kids’ school without having to buy a $30 roll of wrapping paper.
  6. If you have flexibility in your schedule, offer to volunteer. Either in class or after school. Teachers need help after teaching hours with grading, resetting the classroom, prepping projects, and changing out bulletin boards.
  7. Be supportive. Teaching is more than the three hours, and it can take a lot out of teachers. Teachers are not only educators, but they are also the social and emotional support for kids for six hours a day, 180 days a year.

May 2026: New Healthy Freebies From Social Nature!

If you are into Organic/Natural/Healthy products, then Social Nature is right up your alley. Sign up and apply to sample products that you are interested in. I usually receive 4-6 offers/freebies per month, sometimes more if I have time to shop. And most of the time it’s full-size products, not just a tiny sample.

In addition to the offers where they mail you a coupon for a free product, Social Nature has started offering 100% cash-back, similar to Ibotta and Fetch Rewards. I love this because I can select exactly what I want, Social Nature tells me which local stores have it, and I can add it to my next shopping list.

And it’s just as easy as Ibotta and Fetch Rewards. Snap a pic and upload it. You can select Venmo, Paypal, or an Amazon Gift Card for your rebate.

This month, there aren’t a ton of free/100% Cashback offers available, but I’ve listed them below.

Wild Tuna in Olive Oil by Rio Mare
Multipack Sparkling Water by Sanzo

There are a lot more offers for BOGO or a percentage off, including brands like Daiyo, Ripple, Calafia Farms, SunButter, Back to Nature, and Javvy Coffee, to name a few.

If you are looking for other rebate sites, similar to Social Nature, check out Aisle,  WeStock, or Peekage.

The Family Binder: Keeping Important Information Accessible

Previously, I had written about our family binder, but it has been almost 10 years since I put our family binder together, and I figured it was time to update it and write a new post.

You can find my old post here, and a lot has changed in that time.

  • I have two kids!  I have a teenager!
  • Most of my bills are paid via auto debit.
  • I have gone paperless with most of the bills.

I still want to be able to have my life together if there is some sort of emergency. This Binder is “The House is on Fire- Grab this and the kids and the cat!!” type of information. This is one of the things I would grab if there were a natural disaster like a wildfire. It’s part of my Bug Out Bag packing list.

Here are the updated sections that I have in my family binder:

Home information:

  • I have a copy of my homeowners’ insurance policy. The declarations page shows the policy number, the amount of coverage, and contact information for the insurance company in case I need it.
  • Once a year, I print off a mortgage statement which shows all of our information from our mortgage, just in case I need to get a hold of it, but usually I just contact them through their website.
  • One other thing that you will only need in your family binder if you live in a condominium/HOA is a copy of the HOA Master Insurance Policy for your housing group. My mortgage company requests one every year, and when they request one, I am also sent one that I keep one of those in my family binder.
  • Copy of my deed. I have needed it exactly twice in the 10 years. I’ve owned a home, but it is always good to have one and know where it is.
  • The CC&R’s and bylaws for my HOA. Again, it’s not every day that I need these things, but in case of some sort of emergency, I know where they are.
  • The deed to my parking space. Where I live, we have a deeded parking space, and it is our exclusive use area. If someone parks in my parking spot and does not leave when I ask them to, I can have them towed, and the parking space deed is what I show to the tow truck driver when he shows up.

Vehicle Information:

  • The current year’s vehicle registration information. I keep the registration notice that they send us in the mail. I need it when I file the taxes for the next year,
  • The title for each of the cars, and proof of insurance for both of the cars. The declarations page shows the policy number, the amount of coverage, and contact information for the insurance company in case I need it.
  • The Vehicle section is also where I store paperwork regarding work that has been done to our cars that has been covered by a recall, or paperwork for extensive vehicle repairs (usually anything over $1500).

The Important Stuff: This is the paperwork that we need to prove who we are.

Everyone has their own pages in this section. This includes birth certificates, Social Security cards, and passports.

I have copies of our identification cards/driver’s licenses, and copies of school ID cards for each of the kids. This is also where I keep their vaccination cards and printouts from the doctor showing their vaccinations. Because when they were younger, I would frequently forget to take their yellow vaccine cards with me when we went to the pediatrician. In addition to vaccine cards, I also have photocopies of everyone’s insurance cards as well.

Everything Else

Most of the rest of this is kept as a note in my phone, but I also print it out and put it into my family binder about once a year when I update other things like insurance and vehicle registration paperwork.

Utility Companies, including the name/type of the utility company, our account numbers, and their phone number in case I need to call them. For us, it is just water and power. Our HOA dues pay for our trash pickup. But I also have the name and phone number of the garbage company, as well as our HOA contact information in case I need either of those for some reason.

Because we do paperless billing and automatic bill pay every month for the majority of our bills, I do not receive a paper bill, and I do not store copies of our paper bills. That is why I have contact information for everything and account numbers. Most everything we have online access to, such as our utilities and our mortgage statement.

Your family binder should be the thing that you grab if your house is on fire.

As somebody who has lived in Southern California their entire adult life, I have seen a lot of natural disasters, mostly in the form of wildfires, and I know people who have had to evacuate with less than an hour’s notice.

My family binder is a 3 inch three-ring binder, and it has dividers for each section, and most everything is stored in a page protector. Some of the items are three whole punched and directly placed into the binder, like my deed, the rules and regulations, and CC&Rs for our HOA, because those are multi-page documents.

But for things that we need to keep in pristine order, like original birth certificates, baptismal records, and Social Security cards, those go in heavy-duty page protectors.

Meal Kit Round Up and Deals!

I love trying out meal kits; they are a great way to try new recipes with new ingredients that I may not already have on hand. Here are a few of the meal kits that I’ve tried, links to reviews, and any deals or coupon codes I could find.

One of my favorites is still Dream Dinners. Our local location is closed, but there is one in Northern San Diego County that offers pick-ups in La Mesa. I can order online and pick up at a location convenient to me.

Overall, my favorite mail-order/delivery meal kit company is Dinnerly.

They have a nice mix of kid-friendly dishes and stuff that is decidedly more “grown-up food”. I wrote a review here. In addition to having a nice mix of dishes to choose from, the other thing I like is that Dinnerly is the first subscription meal kit service to offer $4.49 per serving. My big qualm with meal kits is that the meals can sometimes be upwards of $8-$10/per serving. At that point, you might as well go out for dinner!

Gobble has a really great deal. Choose your meals and receive a Gobble box for $36 for 6 meals. I recently ordered this, so we’ll see how it turns out! Here is why I decided to try it:

    • Choose your meals from our diverse weekly menu. Gluten-free, dairy-free, low-carb, & vegetarian options are available.
    • Their team of chefs does all the tedious prep work for you — no more chopping, measuring, or a sink full of dishes
  • Your freshly made 15-minute dinner kits will arrive in a refrigerated box to your doorstep. No commitment. Adjustable to your schedule.

Talk Back: I’d love to hear about any meal kits that you or your family have tried and liked.
