Jewish Family Services is here to help those who have lost their benefits because of the government shutdown.

Emergency Nutrition Assistance

If you or someone you care about has been impacted by the government shutdown or the halting of SNAP benefits, please know that you’re not alone. Every Wednesday, JFS will provide supplemental groceries—including non-perishables, pantry staples, and fresh produce—until the shutdown ends.

 Pre-registration is not required.

Wednesdays, 4:00 – 6:00pm
Supplies are limited. First-come, first-served.

Western Eagle Foundation- Northern San Diego County Food Programs

I found out about Western Eagle on TikTok- it just popped up on my For You Page. After checking out their website, I had to share.

Western Eagle Foundation is located in Temecula- That’s in Northern San Diego County (about an hour from my house). They have several programs including a Food Bank, Food Pantry, and customized food boxes.

If you are in Northern San Diego County and need food resources, definitely check out the Western Eagle Foundation.  They post on Instagram daily with what foods they have available in their customized food boxes as well as upcoming food pantry and food bank dates!

Free Resources for San Diego County Families in Need

This is my annual post to help point you toward some free resources for San Diego County residents.

Clothing:

  • Naomi’s Closet is located in Santee, and they provide clothing and toiletries to women in need.
  • The Sonrise Church in Santee has a clothing swap/free clothing resource. One for kid’s clothes, and another for women’s clothing. Miss Charity’s Closet & Little Blessings Boutique 2nd Saturday of every month at 9:00 am Contact Charity Murphy for more info clmurphy71@gmail.com
  • The Closet of 54th. They are open once a few times each month.  They have women, men, and children’s clothing. You can find them on Facebook. They are located at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 3060 54th Street, San Diego, CA. Contact The Closet at thecloseton54th@gmail.com.

Free Food Resources for December 2022(San Diego County)

A new month means a reminder about all of the free food options there is here in San Diego County.

Because of the upcoming holidays, you may notice that some locations will be advertising additional distributions or special Thanksgiving or Winter Holiday meal giveaway events. As information about these events becomes available, I will be sharing them.

Keep in mind there are still supply chain issues, so there may not be a lot of food at some distributions, especially those that serve a large portion of the community.

I recommend showing up a little early with a bottle of water and a book and waiting in line. Time passes quickly in these lines, and it’s a great time to learn from others about community food options. Remember to socially distance and follow local masking regulations.

The Rock Church, which has many locations all over San Diego County has a food and diaper pantry distribution at many of its locations throughout the month. More info can be found here.

Feeding San Diego Together Tour: More Free Food In Your Neighborhood!

Y’all know I post a list of free food resources monthly, but this one just came to my attention courtesy of Brooke from Saving in the 619.

Feeding San Diego has a Together Tour, where they work with local venues to host drive through food giveaways throughout the month all over San Diego County. No proof of need required!

Every registered attendee will receive about 50 lbs worth of dry goods, fresh produce, and frozen meat protein.

During the event, you will receive valuable resources on how to access other Feeding San Diego distributions close to your home. In addition, our team can provide information about CalFresh, and how to apply.

Visit the website here and find your next local event! From Chula Vista to San Marcos, there are events all over the county all month long, all year long!
